About

Last year over 1,400 participants registered for the 10–week long Eat Wise and Exercise Program. By the end of the program over 3,400 pounds were lost, and a total of 921,487 minutes of exercise were logged! At the end of the 10 weeks we thought the next, best step would be getting co–workers and friends involved to create a team–focused program that offered more motivation. This year, you can also track your weight throughout the program, which will provide an extra two weeks of exercise time. The new Shape Up Duke program is a 12–week long, team based challenge! It has easy online tracking of your weight, exercise minutes, and pedometer steps.

What Is Shape Up Duke?

Shape Up Duke is a fun 12–week, team–based fitness, pedometer steps, and/or weight loss competition for co–workers.

You are invited to form a team of co–workers and compete with other teams to exercise the most minutes, lose the most weight, and/or walk the most steps!

Shape Up Duke is designed for participants of all fitness levels. We'll provide you with the tools and resources to easily set goals, track your progress, and motivate your team.

How It Works

  1. Join or Recruit Your Team
It's easy — just click on the Join Now (This link will be live on December 14, 2009) button above. You can choose to be a team captain, join an existing team, or find team members on the Team Building Forum. Teams will consist of 5–11 members including the team captain. Captains will lead their teams in the 12–week challenge to increase physical activity, lose weight, and eat healthier.
  2. Get Ready to Compete
Sign up on-line and your pedometer, printed logbook, and wristband will be delivered to you before the start of the competition.
  3. Get Set to Move
Teams may choose to compete in one, two, or all three competition divisions. Results will be based on average weight loss per team member, average hours of total exercise per team member, and average total pedometer steps per person on the team. Each division will have its own separate team standings.
  4. Create Your Profile
You can personalize your profile by adding a photo, sharing information, and communicating goals. This will help you make connections with other participants with similar interests.
  5. Go!
Participants will record their daily progress online or in the printed logbook. Team standings will be published online every two weeks. To protect your privacy, if you choose to participate in the weight loss division, no other participant will ever be able to see your individual weight.
  6. The Payoff
Besides the reward of good health, the fun of challenging yourself and participants, LIVE FOR LIFE® will reward the top teams and individuals in each division with SHAPE UP DUKE T–shirts!
